It can be argued that for a large country, Brazil is possibly one of the least likely to ever be pulled into an armed conflict. This largely has to do with geography as well as culture. While nothing is impossible, it's likely that any apartments that you find for sale will be safer than other locations.

So as you're checking for sale advertisements for a vacation home in Copacabana or Ipanema understand that you're looking for a place in probably one of the most stable places that you can find in the world. Hopefully that can offer some piece of mind.
